Job summary

Ryerson is seeking a Service Center Operator C to manage daily staging, packing, and picking of material for shipments within a dynamic, quality-focused environment in Chicago.

The role includes operating forklifts, ensuring accurate paperwork and SAP work orders, and contributing to productivity and safety. Eligible candidates will enter an apprenticeship program as part of onboarding, with competitive hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
• Minimum 1 year of similar job experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills and/or comfort using a computer.
• Must be able to pass a physical requirements exam (vision, hearing, mobility).
• Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program.

As a Service Center Operator C (SCOC) at Ryerson, you will be responsible for day-to-day staging, packing, and picking material for shipments using proper equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Picking and staging feedstock for fulfillment orders
• Breaking down bulk bundles for customer-specific orders
• Packaging of material to customer requirements
• Operating a sit-down or side loader forklift to move material as needed
• Proper completion of paperwork and SAP work order confirmation for shipping/receiving on the computer
• Maximum productivity for finished goods creation
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Minimum 1yearof similar job experience preferred
• Basic computer skills and/or comfort using a computer
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding and new hire training
• Hourly: $20.55 - $22.71. A starting hourly rate higher than $20.55 is based on experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
