Job summary

Maguire Automotive Group in Canandaigua, NY is seeking a Service Apprentice for a full-time role. This entry-level position offers hands-on training in automobile maintenance and repairs, working alongside an experienced technician.

You will perform basic maintenance, assist with repairs, and learn safety procedures while contributing to a team environment. The role also includes a 4-day work week and a clear path toward becoming a Flat Rate Certified Technician.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required beyond being able to perform essential duties.
• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Associates degree or technical training can help but not required.
• Willingness to learn and develop automotive skills through on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

• Learn to perform quality vehicle service maintenance and repairs alongside an assigned technician.
• Assist the technician as needed and deliver customer cars to service stalls when required.
• Pick up parts from the parts department as directed by technicians.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks and safety inspections under supervision.
• Report equipment issues and malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Attend training sessions and departmental meetings as scheduled.

Summary

Completes all work assigned by the supervisor. The service Apprentice should have basic knowledge of Automobile maintenance.

• Works alongside an assigned technician to learn to perform quality vehicle service maintenance and repairs.
• Assists assigned technician as needed.
• Delivers customer cars to service stalls as requested by technicians.
• Picks up parts from the parts department as directed by technicians.
• Performs safety inspections, oil changes, lubrication work, basic maintenance and minor repairs as directed.
• Replenishes supplies as requested by technicians or service manager.
• Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
• Attends training classes and departmental meetings.
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

• No prior experience or training.
• Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
