Job summary

AMD in Santa Clara, CA seeks a technical, hands-on engineer to own power and performance validation for Datacenter Server products. You’ll work with silicon and pre-Si teams to meet targets and drive optimization across SLT and voltage stackup.

The role requires strong problem-solving, excellent English communication, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with multiple ongoing projects.

Qualifications

• This position requires a Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering with years of commercial server or data center experience in power and performance areas.
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Interface with silicon, power architect and pre-Si performance teams to meet power and performance targets in pre-silicon.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to optimize SLT charz and voltage stackup for quality and performance.
• Define and optimize PMM features and post-Si performance.
• Lead post-Si power and SLT charz activities and post-Si performance for server product OPNs.
• Support post-silicon/customer debugging to identify root causes of power/performance issues.
• Develop post-silicon validation infrastructure (software, hardware, automation, lab).

THE ROLE:

Technical, hands-on engineer responsible for Datacenter Server product power charz, SLT charz, and performance attainment

THE PERSON:

• Be able to work in a high demand, fast paced environment with lots of real-time problem solving and critical thinking
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Interface silicon, power architect, pre-si performance team to close power and performance target in pre-silicon phase. Provide solutions for performance improvement when needed
• Interface with manufacture team to drive SLT charz and voltage stackup methodology to optimize quality and performance.
• Drive key performance related PMM feature definition and optimization
• Drive quality post si power and SLT charz activity
• Drive post si performance attainment for server product OPNs.
• Drive post-silicon/customer debug efforts to identify root cause of power and performance related issues.

• Develop post-silicon validation infrastructure (software, hardware, automation environment, and lab setup)

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledge of computer hardware architecture (CPU/APU, x86, pcie, memory, bus logic) and software architecture (driver, bios, firmware usage)
• Experience with CPU SLT charz and voltage stackup
• Experience with server product performance optimization
• Knowledge and experience of power management feature enablement and optimization
• Understanding of modern x86 microprocessor architecture and Server platform architecture is highly desired
• Experience developing validation methodologies and infrastructure
• Able to execute and drive success of programs with multiple projects on the go
• Debug skills at both SoC and system level
• Familiarity with programming / scripting language (C/C++, Python, Perl, ...)
• Working knowledge of Server OSes (Linux, Windows Server)
• Must be a self-starting team player with excellent communication skills who can work with minimal guidance

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

Master’s degree or higher in Electrical/Computer Engineering with several years of commercial server or Data Center experience in power and performance related areas.
