Job Summary

Our Server team members are our brand ambassadors, ensuring guests experience a fun, relaxed and exceptional dining experience. Servers are expected to be approachable, friendly, hospitable and professional, ensuring JINYA’s service standards are properly executed. Servers are responsible for ensuring our guests receive the best dining experience through execution of steps of service. All servers work in unison contributing to the guests’ dining experience by providing amazing service and full menu knowledge.

Primary Responsibilities

• Serve guests in a professional and positive manner, including but not limited to taking food and beverage orders and delivering orders to ensure an exceptional dining experience.
• Utilize JINYA’s steps of service, up-selling techniques and proper menu knowledge guiding guests to daily specials, ensuring dietary needs are met and delighting guests with our ramen and tapas.
• Greet guests as they arrive, ensure proper seating arrangements, manage reservations check-in or provide proper wait-list times, and engage with guests to ensure a great dining experience.
• Embrace the JINYA culture and participate in collective proper company greetings, such as “Irasshai” and “Arigato.”
• Communicate clearly and concisely in a positive and professional manner with guests and team members, both front and back of the house. Answer phone calls, take reservations and assign guests to proper tables while maintaining consistent server rotation when needed.
• Ensure cleanliness of the service station and any area visible to guests upon seating.
• Support team members in front-of-house operations, such as refilling beverages, organizing table arrangements, table maintenance, and resetting tables or other necessary items as requested.
• Respond to minor guest complaints and alert management of any major or critical service concerns.
• Know restaurant information such as hours of operation, menu, allergies, table numbers, payment options and other information relevant to restaurant operations.
• Promote and execute JINYA’s core values of Teamwork, Hospitality, Authenticity, Creativity and Integrity.
• Complete projects and/or tasks as requested by managers or supervisors.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-3 years server experience, preferably in a high-volume atmosphere.
• Outstanding and professional verbal and written skills; strong ability to multi-task.
• Positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; ability to write simple correspondence.
• Willing to follow instructions and ask questions for clarification if needed.
• Experience operating POS systems or Host Systems (OpenTable or similar).
• Ability to lead by example, inspire and motivate team spirit and effectively present information in one-on-one or small group settings.
• Dependable and reliable; self-motivated and self-initiated to ensure restaurant is clean and presentable to guests.
• Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
• Able to work in a standing position for long periods and to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
• Be able to write and speak English.
• Must have appropriate city, state and federal certifications as required by location (including alcohol and food handling).

Work Environment

This job operates in a fun yet professional restaurant environment. This role routinely moves inside and outside of the kitchen and operates tools such as trays, glassware, plates and other restaurant equipment. Servers may occasionally ascend/descend ladders to reach overhead items when needed. Servers frequently communicate with staff, guests and other team members and must be able to exchange accurate information.

The team member is regularly required to talk and hear, stand and walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, distinguish flavors, and work in indoor and outdoor environments that may be hot, humid or wet.
