Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a capable supervisor to oversee CBT operations and ensure daily objectives align with agency policies. The role involves directing staff in discipline, safety, and security, and transporting inmates for various legal and medical processes.

The position requires a high school diploma with relevant experience, CDL within six months, and SCDC Training Academy certification within six months. A degree may substitute for part of the experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 18 months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.
• Requires possession of a CDL within six months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Under the direct supervision of the lieutenant, ensure CBT operations meet daily objectives and follow agency policies and procedures.
• Direct and instruct subordinates in discipline, safety, and security.
• Provide safe transport of inmates of all custody levels for PCR, medical, parole, extraditions, and regional courts.
• Ensure proper use of keys, firearms, chemical munitions, and restraint equipment.
• Assign officer duties and ensure vehicles and communication devices are operational.
• Conduct roll call, monitor officers and inmate movement, and verify counts.
• Address inmate disputes and complaints and assist with investigations.
• Evaluates and counsels officers and prepares required documentation.
• Conduct safety and security inspections and correct deficiencies.
• Assist with emergency evacuations.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the division director of security or designee.

Requirements
