Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Supervisor to oversee security personnel assigned to housing units and manage inmate custody and control. You will conduct routine inspections and lead investigations into misconduct, while guiding counts and evaluations for subordinates.

Responsibilities include counseling, disciplining, and training staff to required standards, with reporting duties and occasional duties of Shift Lieutenant. Eight weeks of basic training are required after hire.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work; degree may substitute for part of experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections for security, safety and sanitation compliance.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
