Job summary

Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc. in Illinois is seeking a Service Center Operator C (SCOC) to manage day-to-day staging, packing and picking of material for shipments, using proper equipment and SAP work orders.

You will break down bulk bundles, package to customer requirements, and operate forklifts (sit-down or side loader) while maintaining accurate paperwork and striving for maximum productivity. Training includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program.

Qualifications

• Pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
• Minimum 1 year of similar job experience preferred.
• Basic math skills required.
• Basic computer skills and/or comfort using a computer.
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility.
• Enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program as part of onboarding and training.

As a Service Center Operator C (SCOC) at Ryerson, you will be responsible for day-to-day staging, packing, and picking material for shipments using proper equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Picking and staging feedstock for fulfillment orders
• Breaking down bulk bundles for customer-specific orders
• Packaging of material to customer requirements
• Operating a sit-down or side loader forklift to move material as needed
• Proper completion of paperwork and SAP work order confirmation for shipping/receiving on the computer
• Maximum productivity for finished goods creation
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills

• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding and new hire training
• Hourly: $20.55 - $22.71. A starting hourly rate higher than $20.55 is based on experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
