Job summary

Northrop Grumman seeks a Test Engineering Manager 3 to lead the Flight Vehicle Test Department in Roy, Utah, supporting the Sentinel program. You will mentor section managers, set objectives, and oversee planning, risk, and performance for multiple programs while driving engineering excellence and process improvements.

The role requires a DoD Secret clearance, 8 years of related experience with a degree, and the ability to travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience; Master's degree and 6 years of related experience or an additional 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting the development, integration, verification, and/or execution of complex aerospace, defense, or government programs.
  • Working knowledge of test engineering, integration and test, and/or flight test principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers through coaching, career development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through organizational change while maintaining employee engagement, accountability, and execution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to leadership and cross functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Test Engineering Manager 3. This position will be located in Roy, Utah and will support the Sentinel program.

What You’ll Get To Do

The selected candidate will be responsible for a department within the Test Engineering organization and will report directly to the SDS Test Engineering Director. The selected candidate will set operating objectives and provide mentorship to Functional Home Room (FHR) Section Managers (SMs) based on Engineering goals, objectives, and company policy. Provide oversight and assistance to multiple programs within the Division portfolio (Sentinel/GBSD, ICBM Sustainment and Advanced Programs); to provide the people, skills, and processes for successful achievement of program goals.
As the Department Manager the selected candidate will be responsible for managing planning, risk, project performance, addressing schedule, technical quality, and addressing technical or operational problems when necessary. Will assist engineers and program staff to develop and maintain talent within the organization. Have frequent contact with equivalent level managers and programs to maintain and exceed health and performance for all programs. The selected candidate will be a systems thinker with a track record of working across the organization to influence positive change aligning to business strategies.
The successful candidate will lead a team of test engineers for the Flight Vehicle Test Department.

  • Set a Vision: Develop and communicate a clear vision for shaping, growing, and enabling the Launch Silo IPT to meet and exceed its obligations
  • Build a High Performing Team: Partner with Functional leadership to build, maintain, and implement mentoring, succession, and development plans. Develop and execute staffing plans that achieve financial and programmatic strategic goals
  • Take Ownership: Drive execution across a diverse, multidisciplinary team, meeting cost, schedule, and technical performance metrics. Communicate progress, challenges, and plans with clarity and conciseness
  • Lead with Courage: Instill a culture of empowerment and accountability that enables the team to efficiently meet or exceed obligations. Build strong partnering relationships with customers, industry partners, and internal organizations and proliferate this partnership across the Launch Silo IPT
  • Respond to Challenges with Resilience: Perform proactive risk and opportunity management. Leverage strong partnerships to navigate setbacks and implement recovery plans that maintain forward momentum
  • Act with Speed: Leverage leaders within the Launch Silo IPT to make timely and credible decisions while performing advocacy across a broad stakeholder community to ensure buy-in and mitigate delays. Implement process improvements and strategic initiatives where necessary to maintain and increase execution velocity

  • Reviews and analyzes released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and engineering data control activities
  • Instill process excellence, communications, training, certifications and continuous improvement across the organization
  • Interpret, execute, and recommend modifications to organizational policies
  • Lead or Manage Special Projects
  • Act as an advisor to staff members to meet schedules or resolve technical or operational problems

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience; Master's degree and 6 years of related experience or an additional 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree

These Qualifications Would Be Nice To Have
  • Master’s Degree with 9 years of experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) preferably an Engineering degree
  • Experience on ICBMs
  • Minimum of 3 years in a formal management position
  • Proven performance as an Engineering Leader in all phases of acquisition, design, integration and execution
  • Candidate will require ability to rapidly assess and lend guidance to projects assigned to the organizational group as well as demonstrated mentoring and guidance to engineers
  • Ability to bridge between theoretical concepts and practical implementation, performing associated trade analyses
  • Ability to communicate technical analysis to a variety of stakeholders with different backgrounds and expertise
  • Working knowledge and/ or experience across engineering disciplines
  • Experience on ICBMs
  • Experience creating or growing new sections or departments
  • Experience managing test teams or organizations
  • Familiarity with Agile engineering and JIRA
  • Active Top Secret Clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $151,500.00 - $227,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
