Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal / Sr Principal CFD Aeronautical Engineer in Roy, Utah. You will conduct high-fidelity CFD simulations to predict missile aerodynamics, manage geometry cleaning, meshing, and post-processing, and ensure quality across Aero/Fluids products.

This role requires collaboration with IPTs and clear technical communication. Qualified candidates possess CFD experience, proficiency with CFD codes (CFD++, StarCCM+, ANSYS Fluent), and the ability to obtain DoD Secret

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science or engineering with a strong background in fluid dynamics and aerodynamics.
• Advanced degrees (MS/PhD) preferred for Sr Principal level; DoD clearance may be required.
• Experience with CFD software, mesh generation, boundary conditions, and post-processing is essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-fidelity CFD simulations to predict missile aerodynamic performance across flight regimes.
• Manage geometry cleanup, meshing, boundary condition setup, convergence checks, and post-processing results.
• Ensure Aero/Fluids work products meet technical excellence standards and communicate findings to stakeholders.

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Principal / Sr Principal Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer. This position is located in Roy, UT. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You’ll Get To Do: As an Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Aeronautical Engineer on the Aero/Fluids team you will be responsible for supporting the Aero/Fluids functional homeroom manager in guiding the execution and ensuring quality of the Aero/Fluids teamwork products across Sentinel and Advanced Programs. Position responsibilities include: Conduct high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to accurately predict missile aerodynamic performance under various flight regimes. All aspects of the CFD process which include: cleaning up geometry, making meshes, setting up boundary conditions, monitoring solution convergence and post processes results. Ensure the quality of Aero/Fluids team products meets the technical excellence standards. Collaborate closely with other relevant disciplines/IPTs, e.g. Flight Analysis, Structures, Propulsion, Integration and test, etc. Communicate effectively and clearly; present technical approaches and findings to customers, executive management, and other program stakeholders.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Basic Qualifications: This role can be filled at the Principal CFD Aeronautical Engineer (T03) or Sr Principal CFD Aeronautical Engineer (T04) level.

CFD Principal Aeronautical Engineer: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 1 Years with PhD. B.S. in Related Engineering Filed Deep understanding of fluid dynamics principles, aerodynamic theory, and numerical methods used in various types of simulation (Subsonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and rarefied flow.) 2 years of experience with commercial CFD codes such as CFD++, StarCCM+, or ANSYS Fluent including meshing, running cases, and post processing results in Tecplot Strong communication skills and ability to work across IPTs Experience using CAD software to clean up geometry for CFD Demonstrated technical writing experience in both authoring and reviewing formal analysis documentation Strong oral and written communication skills Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

CFD Sr. Principal Aeronautical Engineer: 8 Years with bachelor’s in science; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD. B.S. in Related Engineering Filed Deep understanding of fluid dynamics principles, aerodynamic theory, and numerical methods used in various types of simulation (Subsonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and rarefied flow.) Deep understanding of turbulence models, relaxation factors, CFL number, and other CFD parameters to ensure simulation is correct. 5 years of experience with commercial CFD codes such as CFD++, StarCCM+, or ANSYS Fluent including meshing, running cases, and post processing results in Tecplot 2 years’ experience leading and mentoring a CFD team Experience writing CDRLs, and formal reports for the customer Experience using CAD software to clean up geometry for CFD Demonstrated technical writing experience in both authoring and reviewing formal analysis documentation Strong understanding of HPC and how they operate Understanding of how to use CFD for design changes Creation of run matrix for CFD cases Strong oral and written communication skills Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have: Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering Understanding of ablation, boundary layer transition, acoustics, plasma and other complex reacting flow phenomenon 1 year of experience developing aerodynamic models, tools, databases using Matlab, Python, C++ or similar for integration into 3/6DOF simulations 1 year of experience with analytical aerodynamic design tools, e.g. Missile DATCOM or similar Experience analyzing wind tunnel test data and flight test results for verification and validation of models Demonstrated experience working with Linux and Windows based HPC's for aero/fluids work Involvement with the planning and execution of physical aerodynamics related testing applications such as wind tunnels or flight test validation including scheduling, test matrix and development of test items/ Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. Prior exposure to defense projects or working within regulated environments is highly desirable.

DoD Secret Clearance Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
