Job summary

Position Overview

Principal Material Process Engineer
Location: Roy, UT
Company: Northrop Grumman Space Systems

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform full spectrum of design and parts management tasks for assigned system and subsystems within a Systems Engineering framework.
  • Develop manufacturing control and cost‑saving strategies for large‑scale aerospace and ground control system components.
  • Create, analyze, and present roadmaps, impact, and issue reports to stakeholders, customers, and upper management.
  • Research specifications and standards to support part, material, and process engineering across internal and external supplier designs.
  • Maintain close coordination with integrated product teams and provide detailed status reports to program leadership.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, design engineers, project managers, reliability engineers, and external customers to establish traceability of design documentation.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering or related STEM discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Strong written and oral communication for test plans and stakeholder briefings.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and 3D models.
  • Previous experience leading projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, Welding, Chemical, or Materials Engineering.
  • Experience reviewing and approving materials and processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of part/material manufacturing and FMEA.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering, multi‑generational program development, and supplier management.
  • Independent problem‑solving using literature review and testing.
  • High‑value customer presentation experience.
  • Agile environment experience and familiarity with JIRA.
  • Hands‑on APQP, PPAP, and control plan development.
  • Machining experience with GD&T, ISO, ASME, surface finish, and material specification standards.
  • Cable harness fabrication (IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, MIL‑STD‑196).
  • Welding (AWS) and soldering/assembly experience.
  • Siemens NX, Capital, Expedition, and Teamcenter experience.
  • Coating system qualification experience.
  • Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary range: $89,400.00 – $134,200.00.
  • Eligibility for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonus.
  • Long‑term incentives for VP or Director levels.

  • 9/80 work schedule (nine‑hour days Monday–Thursday, every other Friday off).
