Job summary

Dallas Zoo Management seeks a senior zoologist to lead daily animal care in a fast-paced wildlife program. You will follow established protocols for food prep, enrichment, exhibit maintenance, and veterinary support, collaborating with staff to advance welfare and conservation initiatives.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in biology or a related science field is preferred.
• Must have knowledge of animal care and basic husbandry skills, and at least three years of exotic animal care experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall daily care of assigned animals and exhibits to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
• Observe and report abnormal health or behavior to managers or veterinary staff.
• Prepare and provide food, water, and medications as instructed to ensure proper nutrition.
• Clean exhibits and holding areas, maintain sanitation, and perform pest control as needed.
• Provide environmental enrichment and training using operant conditioning where applicable.
• Assist with animal transfers and procedures as directed.
• Interact with staff, volunteers, and zoo guests to promote welfare and conservation messaging.
• Participate in safety procedures and emergency response as required.
