Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD is seeking a Senior Wireless Reverse Engineer to lead reverse engineering of undocumented wireless systems and protocols for signals intelligence, wireless cyber access, and defensive capabilities. You will combine software, firmware, embedded systems, and protocol analysis to understand complex systems from over-the-air behavior to underlying implementations, while mentoring staff and developing automation tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • At least ten years of relevant reverse engineering experience.
  • Experience reverse engineering software, firmware, embedded systems, and protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with disassembly/decompilation, debugging, and binary analysis.
  • Experience developing software using Python, C, or C++.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Top Secret clearance with potential TS/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead reverse engineering efforts against undocumented wireless systems to understand operation and vulnerabilities.
  • Reverse engineer software, firmware, embedded implementations, and communications protocols.
  • Use disassembly, debugging, static and dynamic analysis, and binary analysis to uncover functionality.
  • Correlate software, firmware, and protocol behavior to understand complex systems.
  • Develop tools and workflows to accelerate reverse engineering efforts.
  • Provide technical leadership and communicate findings to sponsors and teams.
