Job summary

Yaskawa America, Inc. / Motoman seeks a Welding Engineer to develop robotic welding processes and robot programs that showcase Yaskawa technologies.

You will lead customer demonstrations, validate process feasibility, and collaborate with sales and engineering teams to recommend integrated robotics systems. Travel about 10-15% to support demonstrations and events, and provide technical input for product specifications, testing, and validation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in welding engineering, robotics, industrial automation, or manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of welding equipment, sensors, and automated manufacturing technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel approximately 10-15%.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robotic welding processes and robot programs that demonstrate the capabilities of Yaskawa products and technologies.
  • Conduct customer demonstrations and proof of concept testing to validate process feasibility and application performance.
  • Collaborate with customers, Application Sales Managers, Regional Sales Managers, and internal engineering teams to recommend robotics systems, welding equipment, sensors, and automation solutions.
  • Serve as the technical expert for complex welding applications, providing programming and process support both in-house and at customer locations.
  • Document demonstration objectives, equipment configurations, process parameters, results, and recommendations for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement emerging welding, robotic, and automation technologies to enhance customer solutions and Yaskawa's competitive position.
  • Evaluate vendor products and technologies, including welding sensors and related equipment, to ensure technical requirements are met.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and training for customers, employees, integrators, and OEM partners.
  • Support product development activities by providing technical input for product specifications, testing, and validation.
  • Maintain demonstration equipment and laboratory resources to support customer projects and sales activities.
  • Support industry trade shows by assisting with system setup, teardown, and live product demonstrations.
  • Travel approximately 10-15% to support customer demonstrations, trade shows, and technical projects.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate quality standards, ISO procedures, and safe work practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Preferred

  • Experience supporting customer demonstrations or application engineering.
  • Experience with robotic arc welding, weld process optimization, and automated welding systems.
  • Experience presenting technical information to customers or at industry events.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires the ability to work in manufacturing and laboratory environments. Duties include standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting equipment and materials, and operating machinery. The position may require lifting up to 50 pounds with appropriate assistance or equipment. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in office, laboratory, manufacturing, and customer environments. The position involves exposure to manufacturing equipment, welding operations, electrical systems, moving mechanical parts, and industrial noise. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when working in designated production or laboratory areas.
