Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Project Manager in Billings, MT. You will lead complex projects within HDR's Water Business Group, grow client relationships, and mentor staff while delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

The role emphasizes collaboration, leadership, and technical excellence in water utilities, with an emphasis on program delivery and growth in the Billings market.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • 10 years related experience and minimum 5 years PM experience.
  • Professional Engineer license (PE or P.Eng) required.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience; Access a plus.
  • Strong leadership, BD and strategic planning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate multi-discipline project teams through lifecycle.
  • Lead large projects or medium projects with high technical complexity.
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently.
  • Maintain client relations and participate in marketing and design meetings.
  • Conduct work sessions for deliverable development with staff and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate staffing and workloads to meet budgets and schedules.
  • Track financial aspects and ensure on-time completion.
  • Collaborate with accounting, operations and leadership for reviews.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures and mentor junior PMs.

HDR's Water Business Group is growing in Billings, and we're looking for a motivated Senior Water/Wastewater Project Manager ready to take the next step in their career. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced local team while gradually stepping into expanded leadership and client responsibility. The position is intentionally structured to allow time for collaboration, mentoring, and knowledge sharing, providing a strong foundation for longterm success. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of complex projects, support staff development, and help strengthen HDR's presence in the Billings market.

In the role of Senior Water/Wastewater Project Manager, we'll count on you to:
  • Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out)
  • Responsible for all aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, involving a large project staff
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Establish and maintain client relations, and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
  • Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
  • Work with the Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
  • Implement QA/QC procedures
  • Supervise large project staffs and act as mentor for less-experienced Project Managers
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • PMP certification
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 10 years related experience
  • A minimum 5 years project management experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
