Job summary

ENGEO seeks an experienced water resources/hydrology professional to lead technical projects and grow our California water resources practice. You will oversee surface water hydrology, hydraulics, sediment transport, and groundwater analyses, while mentoring staff and strengthening client relationships.

The role involves designing flood detention and water quality facilities, conducting field studies, preparing reports, and supporting business development.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
  • 7 to 15+ years of related work experience.
  • Licensed PE in California.
  • Proficient in HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MODFLOW, GIS, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of California regulatory framework and permitting related to water resources.
  • Experience with client service, project scoping, and business development.
  • Exceptional project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform surface water hydrology and hydraulic analyses to support water resources projects.

  • Prepare concept and construction-level figures, drawings, and specs.
  • Develop SWPPP and SWMP for sites across California.
  • Conduct field studies, weather station installation, and water quality sampling.
  • Prepare reports, memos, proposals, and change orders.
  • Communicate and collaborate with clients, subcontractors, agencies, and teammates.
  • Support business development and fee estimates for clients.

Position Summary

ENGEO is seeking an experienced and motivated water resources/hydrology professional who is passionate about solving complex hydrology and water resources challenges while helping grow our practice. The ideal candidate is a technical leader who enjoys working on dynamic, multidisciplinary projects and is eager to build and strengthen client relationships, identify new business opportunities, and contribute to the continued success of our team. Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform surface water hydrology and hydraulic analyses, sediment transport analyses, and groundwater flow analyses to support water resources projects.
  • Design flood detention and water quality facilities, open channels/stormwater conveyance systems, storm drain outfalls, scour protection measures, creek/riverbank improvements, and groundwater wells.
  • Assist in the preparation of concept‑level figures and construction‑level drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare and implement stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP) and stormwater management plans (SWMP) for sites across California.
  • Conduct and/or oversee water resources‑related field studies, including weather station installation, stream flow gauging, water quality sampling, creek condition assessments, and site inspections.
  • Prepare written reports and key project deliverables, such as technical memos, reports, proposals, and change orders.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with project stakeholders (clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, etc.) and internal teammates.
  • Support and participate in business development activities, including preparation of proposals, scope development, and fee estimates for new and existing clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, with increasing responsibility for identifying project opportunities, supporting pursuits, and contributing to the growth of the water resources practice.
  • Provide technical leadership on projects and contribute to team development through mentoring junior staff and reviewing technical work products.
  • Collaborate with ENGEO’s geotechnical engineers, environmental engineers, and geologists on projects where there is an intersection with water resources (e.g., levee design and seepage analyses, contaminant plume transport studies, infiltration/percolation testing, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
  • B.S. or M.S. (preferred) degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program
  • 7 to 15+ years of related work experience
  • Licensed PE in the state of California
  • Proficient in HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MODFLOW, GIS, and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of local, California, and Federal environmental regulatory framework and permitting requirements related to water resources
  • Knowledgeable of the construction industry and project development phases
  • Experience with client service, project scoping, and business development
  • Exceptional project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff

Salary Description

Approximately $115,000 - $160,000 annually, depending on experience level, skill set and other considerations.
