Job summary

Seattle Public Utilities is seeking a Senior Water Quality Engineer to lead water treatment strategies and quality management for Seattle's drinking water system. You will partner with operators, engineers, planners, and project teams to drive data-informed decisions and safeguard public health.

The role reports to the Water Quality Engineering Supervisor and offers hybrid work with opportunities to influence major capital initiatives and emergency response across the city.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or sanitary engineering or related field.
• Five years of engineering project management, water treatment, and water quality management experience.

Responsibilities

• Drinking Water Treatment Engineering: Plans, designs, and supports operations for water treatment and related systems.
• Water Quality Coordination: Manages drinking water quality issues and oversees contract operations at the Cedar Treatment Facility.
• System-wide Water Quality Management: Serves as SME across source-to-distribution systems and ensures public health protection and regulatory compliance.
• Regulatory Compliance & Reporting: Interprets drinking water regulations and develops required compliance plans and reports.
• Project Support & Standards: Guides capital and major maintenance projects with water quality expertise and sets technical standards for staff and contractors.
• Communication: Explains complex water quality information to staff, leadership, wholesale customers, and the public.
• Work Environment/Hybrid Schedule: Works in a hybrid schedule with field and office components.
