Job summary

The State Water Resources Control Board's Office of Chief Counsel in Sacramento seeks an Attorney V to provide expert legal advice on water quality matters. The role involves reviewing statutes, regulations, and court decisions, and supporting in civil litigation and administrative proceedings.

The attorney will draft legislation, regulations, plans, and policies; work independently in a fast-paced environment; and serve board members and management with sound, independent legal analysis.

Qualifications

• ATTORNEY V position requires strong legal qualifications as defined in the Class Specification.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are highly desirable.
• Experience in water quality or environmental law is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews, analyzes, interprets statutes, regulations, and cases and applies them to agency matters.
• Provides legal counsel to Board Members and staff.
• Drafts legal documents, assists in court appearances and administrative proceedings.
• Assists in developing legislation, regulations, plans, and policies.
