Job summary

The City of Chicopee’s Water Pollution Control Division is seeking a Senior Operator to supervise and perform day‑to‑day operations of the Water Pollution Control Facility. You will operate sewage treatment, dewatering, and CSO equipment while ensuring compliance with EPA/NPDES permits.

Responsibilities include supervising shifts, maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, and keeping accurate records. Requires Grade 6 WWTP license, MA driver’s license, and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Active Grade 6 WWTP Operator's License required, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License required.
• High School Diploma required.
• Associate's Degree in Environmental Technology/Science desirable.
• Minimum 3 years wastewater operations experience or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical knowledge and leadership competencies.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations and OSHA regulations.
• MS Office (Word/Excel) proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment facility and related equipment.
• Coordinate first and second shift operational tasks for staff.
• Ensure equipment reliability with adequate parts on hand.
• Receive and off-load chemicals, ensure proper storage and handling.
• Maintain clean and orderly plant facilities and perform routine lab tests.
• Monitor CSO and storm water programs and report permit violations.
