Job summary

Defense Unicorns is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build UDS VM, enabling secure VM deployment alongside container workloads within the UDS platform.

Based in the United States and offering a remote role, you will shape technical decisions, own complex capabilities, and collaborate with Product, UX, and Mission Heroes to deliver reliable, intuitive software across the VM lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Go or another modern programming language.
• Experience with Kubernetes or other distributed systems.
• Strong APIs, system design, and software architecture knowledge.
• Backend services, controllers, operators, or developer tooling experience.
• Familiarity with Linux, containers, and OS concepts.
• Experience building, testing, and operating production software.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive complex work to completion.
• Strong problem-solving skills and debugging across boundaries.
• Excellent communication and collaboration, mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own design, implementation, testing, and delivery of complex features.
• Drive pragmatic technical decisions and contribute to architecture.
• Resolve ambiguity with Product, UX, and Mission Heroes.
• Improve reliability, security, performance, observability, and maintainability.
• Review code, mentor teammates, and uphold engineering practices.
• Document decisions and collaborate across teams.
