Job summary

Ambient.ai in the San Francisco Bay Area is hiring a Senior Applied Research Scientist to build the next generation of foundation models for computer vision. You’ll own end-to-end model development—from pre-training on image-language data to distillation and deployment on edge devices.

You’ll design multimodal transformers, optimize real-time inference, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance Ambient.ai’s security-focused AI research and real-world vision benchmarks.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s in CS, EE, or related field with strong AI/ML foundation.
• Proficient in Python/C++ and DL frameworks; comfortable with large-scale training pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with CNNs, Transformers, and ViT; strong vision-language model understanding.

Responsibilities

• Develop & optimize VLMs for images, videos, text with real-time inference.
• Full training pipeline: pre-training on image-text data and fine-tuning for security domain.
• Apply distillation, quantization, and pruning for deployment efficiency.
• Prototype new architectures and training methods for multimodal AI research.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to integrate models into the platform.
• Stay current with vision, NLP, and multimodal AI research and design experiments.
