Job summary

WSP USA in the United States is seeking a Senior Vice President, Technical Manager, Urban Development to lead complex urban development and transportation projects nationwide. You will manage project teams, oversee planning, environmental work, stakeholder engagement and design through to cost estimating.

The role requires leading multidisciplinary teams, strong client relationships, and ability to travel; 10+ years of relevant experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in a related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in management, planning, design of infrastructure or development projects.
  • Commercial, contractual and negotiation skills. Strong command of development principles including right-of-way acquisition, entitlements, zoning, financing, public outreach, and infrastructure design.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work within a team environment.
  • Capable, dedicated and proven leader that is a self-starter with accountability for project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client relationships and lead teams of advisors, planners, engineers, technical experts and support staff.
  • Provide technical leadership for planning, environmental documentation, community and stakeholder engagement, conceptual through detailed design, cost estimating, entitlements, and related tasks.
  • Manage budget, schedule, quality and team deliverables and coordinate with project/stakeholder teams.
  • Collaborate with disciplines including roadway, transit, structures, environmental, geotechnical, traffic, electrical, storm drainage, utilities, rights of way, building architects and public realm designers.
  • Act as project manager and mentor junior staff; perform tasks as needed in fast-paced environments.

This Opportunity

Manage, provide technical guidance and develop projects across the US with our Urban Development and Transportation Teams and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

The role of Technical Manager, Urban Development (Senior Vice President) involves fulfilling the role of a Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager on complex urban development and transportation projects throughout the United States. The role requires experience leading a multi-disciplinary project team in the delivery of challenging comprehensive development projects located at or integrated with major transportation facilities. Experience with and understanding of public and private clients is a must. Moreover, the role requires the ability to think across technical lines, and to generate support for a particular opportunity.

Primary responsibilities include managing the client relationship, leading teams of advisors, planners, engineers, technical experts and support staff, providing technical leadership for planning, environmental documentation, community and stakeholder engagement, conceptual thru detailed design, cost estimating, entitlements, and a variety of other tasks and duties. The role will also include responsibility for budget, schedule, quality and team deliverables, as well as collaboration within project and stakeholder teams and management/coordination with our teams working on the vertical aspects of the development program.

The candidate is required to have experience related to the planning of urban development and transportation projects, as well as the ability to lead a team of experts. The candidate should also be able to act as a project manager, with the need to step in and self-perform tasks, if necessary, in a fast-paced and potentially critical project environment.

Your Impact
  • Manage project teams responsible for a variety of development tasks for transportation and urban development projects requiring independent judgment

  • Responsible for coordination with the full range of relevant disciplines and related experts, including roadway, transit, structures, environmental, geotechnical, traffic, electrical, storm drainage, utilities, right of way, building architects, public realm/landscape designers, and other disciplines

  • Responsible for preparation of project reports, plans and specifications

  • Ensure that production of reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements

  • Interact with clients, and lead technical meetings

  • Lead others and supervise the production of junior and mid-level staff, associated with specific projects

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $350,000 - $400,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
