Heartline Staffing, in partnership with Purple Cow Recruiting, is seeking an experienced Senior Veterinarian for a full-time opportunity in the Boston area. This is a senior clinical leadership position within a state-of-the-art private veterinary practice, offering the opportunity to oversee a growing hospital, work alongside a team of veterinarians and support staff, and potentially advance into a future Director of Operations role overseeing multiple facilities.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Veterinarian will provide high-quality medical and surgical care to companion animals, primarily dogs and cats, while also helping lead clinical operations and support the continued growth of the hospital. The facility is expected to expand to seven-day operations, making team development, staffing, clinical leadership, and operational collaboration important components of this role.

The ideal candidate brings at least five years of veterinary hospital experience, strong small-animal medical and surgical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other veterinarians, hospital leadership, referring veterinarians, clients, and support staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Examine and diagnose diseases and injuries in companion animals
  • Develop and manage medical treatment plans
  • Treat patients both medically and surgically
  • Perform dental procedures

  • Manage ongoing medical cases and patient outcomes
  • Collaborate with referring veterinarians
  • Work with the Regional Operations Manager and Hospital Manager to maintain high standards of patient care
  • Help oversee clinical operations within the veterinary hospital
  • Support and mentor veterinarians and veterinary staff
  • Assist with building and growing a strong veterinary team
  • Support staffing and operational planning as the hospital expands its service schedule
  • Help maintain efficient patient flow and high-quality clinical standards
  • Participate in ongoing education, seminars, and clinical training
  • Manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced hospital environment

LEADERSHIP & GROWTH

This opportunity offers meaningful long-term growth potential. The Senior Veterinarian will help oversee a state-of-the-art facility and work with hospital and regional leadership as the practice continues to expand. EXPERIENCE NOTE:

This senior-level search requires at least five years of veterinarian experience in a veterinary hospital. Unlike the Associate Veterinarian opening, this position is not intended as a new-graduate opportunity.

LICENSE NOTE:

Candidates do not necessarily need to already hold a Massachusetts veterinary license at initial screening, but they must be eligible to obtain one within the hiring timeline. Veterinarians currently licensed in another U.S. state may be considered when they can obtain Massachusetts licensure.

LEADERSHIP NOTE:

Clinical leadership and operational experience are important for this role because the veterinarian will help oversee the facility and support future growth. Formal Medical Director or Lead Veterinarian experience is highly valuable, but strong senior veterinarians with demonstrated team leadership, staffing, scheduling, or operational involvement may also warrant consideration.
