Job summary

Waymo is seeking an experienced Vehicle Body Structure Engineer to guide development of future Waymo projects. You will work with cold stamping, hot stamping, casting, and hydroforming, and create layouts in Catia V6 to support production part development.

The role requires at least 6 years in body structure development, strong supplier interaction, and production CAD proficiency (Catia V5/V6). Travel is up to 10%. Base salary ranges from $198,000 to $248,000 per year with bonus and benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years in body structure development within automotive manufacturing.
• Experience launching cars and solving production ramp issues.
• Strong interaction with suppliers during tooling launches and DFM.
• Production CAD proficiency using Catia V5/V6.

Responsibilities

• Guide development of vehicle body structures using cold stamping, hot stamping, casting and hydroforming.
• Create layouts, master sections, and package studies in 3D CAD/Catia V6 to support production part development.
• Recommend materials with CAE validation and balance cost vs tooling investment.
• Present multiple solutions and inform decision making with internal Waymo teams and suppliers.

Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's autonomous driving technology, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.

This hybrid role will report to a Vehicle Engineering Leader.

You will:

• Use your broad experience in the following manufacturing technologies to guide development of vehicle body structures for future Waymo projects: Cold stamping, Hot stamping, Casting, Hydroforming
• Create layouts, master sections, and package studies in 3D CAD/ Catia V6, to support production part development
• Recommend materials to achieve structural requirements, working closely with our inhouse CAE team to validate
• Present a range of solutions to any given problem, balancing piece price vs tooling investment, to inform decision making
• Work with internal Waymo teams to recommend possible future partners for supply of components from a global supply base

You have:

• Worked at one or more vehicle manufacturers or tier one suppliers in the product development or Engineering teams, and have in-depth knowledge of typical tooling strategies for a range of body structure components
• Launched multiple cars and gone through the production ramp/ launch problem solving phases of the programs
• Examples of strong interaction with suppliers, working through DFM during tooling launches
• Experience driving conversations/ meetings using examples from Benchmark/ competitor vehicle
• Understanding of typical vehicle body assembly strategies and sequence to inform shingling of components

We prefer:

• You are or have been a strong individual contributor, having owned areas of a car from concept through to launch
• You have experience creating production ready CAD (3D and 2D),ideally using Catia V5 or V6
• You have minimum 6 years experience in body structure development

Travel requirements

• 10% both Domestic and International

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
