Job summary

Atoms is building autonomous platforms and seeks a Senior Vehicle Integration Engineer to own bring-up and sensor calibration across the full sensor suite. You will guide a vehicle from mechanical completion to autonomous engagement, defining calibration criteria and developing repeatable processes for production.

Responsibilities include writing test plans, diagnosing cross-domain failures, and partnering with technicians to ensure robust hardware and software integration.

Qualifications

3+ years integrating, validating, and debugging electrical and electromechanical systems on prototype and production vehicles.
Hands-on experience with low-/high-voltage power distribution and wiring harnesses.
Fluency with automotive networks and diagnostics (CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, DTCs) and tools.
Experience integrating compute into vehicles: carrier boards, high-speed signaling, power sequencing, thermal management.
Strong problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills.
Onsite five days a week in San Francisco with a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

Vehicle Bring-Up end-to-end ownership: power-on, firmware/software load, device enumeration, validation and fleet sign-off.
Sensor Calibration for lidar, radar, camera, IMU, and GNSS; define calibration criteria and verification.
Create test plans and validation procedures; analyze data and report results.
Cross-Domain Diagnosis across mechanical, electrical, firmware and software boundaries.
Design and maintain test hardware, benches, harnesses, and diagnostics tooling.
Provide design feedback to hardware engineers; partner with technicians as customers.
Collaborate with engineering technicians to execute builds and bring-up.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Vehicle Integration Engineer to own vehicle bring‑up and sensor calibration across our autonomous platforms. In this role, you will take a vehicle from mechanically complete, to first autonomous engagement, to a validated unit released into the fleet, owning the sequence, the calibration method, and the acceptance criteria that determine when a vehicle is ready. You will build the calibration and test infrastructure that turns bring‑up from an engineering activity into a repeatable process the production team can run without you.

What you’ll do

Vehicle Bring‑Up: Own the bring‑up sequence end to end: power‑on, firmware and software load, device enumeration, systems validation, first autonomous engagement validation and the sign‑off that releases a vehicle to the fleet.
Sensor Calibration: Own intrinsic and extrinsic calibration across the full sensor suite of lidar, radar, camera, IMU, and GNSS. Build and maintain the physical calibration environment, define what "in calibration" means, how it is verified, and how a drifting or incorrect calibration is caught early.
Test Plans & Validation: Author the test plans and procedures our fleet is validated against, execute them, analyze the resulting data, and report results clearly enough to act on.
Cross‑Domain Diagnosis: Resolve ambiguous failures across the mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software boundary, and hand the owning engineer reproduction steps and evidence rather than a symptom.
Test Hardware & Tooling: Specify, build, and maintain the benches, harness breakouts, and diagnostic tooling the process depends on, building what does not yet exist.
Design Feedback: Feed what you learn back into hardware design (e.g. sensor mounting and tolerance stack‑ups that make calibration difficult).
Technician Partnership: Partner with our engineering technicians as customers, who will execute the builds and bring‑up.

What we’re looking for

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
3+ years integrating, validating, and debugging electrical and electromechanical systems on prototype and production vehicles in autonomous vehicles, EVs, or at an automotive OEM or supplier, with a proven track record of technical ownership.
Deep hands‑on expertise in vehicle E/E architecture: low‑voltage power distribution and redundancy, wire harness and connector systems for both low and high voltage, and the failure modes that come with them.
Fluency with automotive networks and diagnostics (CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, and DTCs) and the supporting tooling, including Vector CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
Experience integrating and debugging vehicle actuation interfaces: steering, braking, and propulsion, or comparable motor‑control and powertrain systems, including redundant, degraded, and fail‑operational behavior.
Experience integrating compute into vehicles: carrier boards, high‑speed differential signaling, power sequencing, and thermal management.
Proven ability to navigate highly ambiguous environments, self‑direct technical problem‑solving, and clearly communicate technical trade‑offs to cross‑functional partners.
Ability to work onsite five days a week in San Francisco, travel to test and deployment sites, and hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

The base salary range for this role is $176,000 - $242,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package. You may also be eligible for equity awards.
