Job summary

Sapphire Stream Technology in Southfield, MI, is seeking a Senior Validation Engineer to validate automotive infotainment and connected-vehicle software. You will test, diagnose, and verify features at bench, vehicle, and plant levels, using automated scripts and hardware diagnostics.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering, or foreign equivalent + 3 years of experience.
  • Proven experience validating automotive infotainment and connected-vehicle systems.
  • Strong knowledge of CAN bus analysis tools and test automation for embedded software features.

Responsibilities

  • Test planning and execution across bench, vehicle, and plant levels.

  • Create and execute test plans and cases in vehicle simulators and labs.
  • Perform static, on-road, and test-track vehicle software tests.
  • Validate infotainment software features (Connectivity, Multimedia, Navigation, Settings, Voice, OTA).
  • Data collection and analysis of logs to support software quality and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive validation and sign-off.
  • Provide plant-level support during production launches and issue triage.

Job description

Position Title: Senior Validation Engineer

Work Location: Southfield, MI

Employment Type: Full-Time, 40 hours/week

Test, validate, and diagnose automotive infotainment and connected-vehicle systems through automated and manual testing at the bench, vehicle, and plant levels; perform hardware diagnostics, log analysis, and root-cause troubleshooting; and collaborate cross-functionally to drive validation and sign-off of vehicle software features.

  • Test Planning & Execution
  • Analyze, design, program, verify automated test scripts, and execute test automation on automotive infotainment systems.
  • Create and execute test plans and test cases in a vehicle or simulator at the lab, in accordance with project schedules and infotainment system functional requirements.
  • Execute static, on-road, and test track vehicle software tests, including manual and automated test cases at bench and vehicle levels.
  • Validate infotainment software features, including Connectivity, Multimedia, Navigation, Settings, Voice Recognition, and OTA updates.
  • Hardware Diagnostics & Mechanical Systems Validation
  • Assess mechanical and electromechanical system interactions affecting infotainment performance, including sensor signal integrity, actuator response, and thermal and vibration effects on embedded hardware components.
  • Perform first triage, root-cause analysis, and structured troubleshooting of software issues found during software release testing using CAN bus tools (CDA, CAN Analyzer, Intrepid, Huntsville), ADB, ATS, Wi-Fi sniffers, Wireshark, QPST, and QXDM.
  • Perform hands-on diagnostics using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies to isolate electrical and mechanical faults, analyze root causes, and validate corrective actions across vehicle hardware and embedded systems.
  • Validate ECU functionality, flashing procedures, and system behavior across prototype, pre-production, and production builds, including mechanical integration aspects such as thermal performance, vibration tolerance, and vehicle-level harness and connector integrity.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Collect and analyze SOC, VIP, Android, and ATS logfiles to support software quality assessment and issue resolution.
  • Analyze failures, interpret test results, and produce failure reports; summarize test and quality reports for the R&D team.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Plant Support
  • Interact with systems and software teams to drive validation and sign-off of vehicle software features and functions.
  • Support plant-level troubleshooting, vehicle test fleet coordination, and launch activities at assembly and pilot plant sites, applying knowledge of mechanical systems, vehicle architectures, and manufacturing processes to identify and resolve hardware-software interface issues.
  • Provide on-demand support for urgent plant issues throughout the production launch cycle.

  • Knowledge of automotive infotainment software functions, development process, and OEM/Tier-1 validation processes.
  • Logfile analysis and root-cause identification of vehicle software issues.
  • Experience generating validation documentation and test results reports.
  • Working knowledge of statistical process controls and risk assessment processes.
  • Ability to collaborate across systems and software teams to drive validation and sign-off of vehicle software features.
