Freebird is seeking a Senior UX/UI Designer with a strong emphasis on visual design. You will own the design system and elevate the visual quality across web and mobile across Freebird’s digital surfaces.

Collaborate with product and engineering to ship work that looks and performs at the highest level. This remote role requires meaningful overlap with US working hours and a passion for craft.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional UX/UI or product design experience.
• Portfolio showing exceptional visual design on real digital products.
• Experience building or contributing to a design system used in a live product.
• Strong visual design skills: typography, layout, colour, spacing and polish.
• Solid UX knowledge: user journeys, IA, wireframes, prototyping.
• Familiarity with accessibility (WCAG).
• Advanced proficiency in Figma.

Responsibilities

Freebird® is a 9-figure DTC brand serving over 2 million customers and redefining grooming for the modern consumer. We've built one of the strongest paid acquisition engines in DTC. Now we're raising the visual and experiential quality of our digital product to match the brand we've built.

We're looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer with a strong emphasis on visual design excellence. We need someone who takes a good interface and makes it exceptional: someone who obsesses over typography, spacing, layout, colour, consistency, and the finer details that elevate a design from functional to memorable. UX knowledge and an understanding of user journeys are important. Visual design craftsmanship is where you must truly excel.

This role owns the Freebird design system, the UI across our digital surfaces, and the visual quality bar the whole team builds toward. You'll work closely with our Senior Director of Design and collaborate with product and engineering to ship work that looks and feels as good as it performs.

You'll report to the Senior Director of Design. This role is 100% remote. We require meaningful overlap with US working hours.

What You'll Own

Set the Visual Design Standard

This is the heart of the role.

• Create beautiful, polished, premium digital experiences that represent Freebird at its best across every touchpoint.
• Take good interfaces and make them exceptional through meticulous attention to typography, layout, colour, spacing, and visual detail.
• Apply a strong visual point of view that pushes design beyond execution and into craft.
• Maintain a consistently high quality bar across web and app surfaces without needing to be managed on the basics.
• Set the visual standard that the rest of the design team builds toward.

Build and Maintain the Freebird Design System

The design system is the foundation that holds the visual standard across everything.

• Own the component library, design tokens, and pattern documentation in Figma.
• Maintain version control and governance so the system grows predictably and consistently.
• Act as the consistency gatekeeper: reviewing team output, flagging deviations, and evolving the system as the product expands.
• Collaborate with engineers on implementation so that what's designed is what ships.
• Create clear specifications that enable smooth, low-back-and-forth implementation.

Lead UX Design with Strong Visual Judgment

• Design responsive, accessible experiences across desktop and mobile, led by strong visual instinct.
• Create user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that are both functionally sound and visually sharp.
• Apply UX knowledge to make well-structured, user-centered design decisions independently.
• Validate and improve designs using product data and customer feedback after launch.

Ship Production-Ready UI at Senior Velocity

• Take stakeholder briefs to polished, production-ready designs within sprint cadence.
• Deliver complete handoffs to engineering: specs, interaction notes, edge-case coverage.
• Contribute to sprint planning and grooming by estimating accurately and delivering on commitments.
• Support design quality reviews so that what ships matches what was designed.

Contribute to the Design Culture

• Bring a strong visual point of view to critiques and team discussions.
• Support junior designers and help establish shared ways of working as the function grows.
• Present design decisions clearly and respond constructively to feedback at all levels, including from a CEO with strong design opinions.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 6-12 months:

• Freebird's digital surfaces look and feel noticeably more premium than when you joined.
• A documented, scalable design system is used consistently across all digital touchpoints.
• Design handoffs are clean, complete, and require minimal clarification from engineering.
• You are the person the team goes to when the visual quality of something isn't right.
• Junior designers have a clear visual standard to work toward and structured feedback to guide them.

Requirements

We're looking for an exceptional UI/UX designer with a strong emphasis on visual design. Outstanding craft is the requirement. Strong UX knowledge is the complement.

• 5+ years of professional UX/UI or product design experience, with a track record of delivering high-quality digital products end-to-end.
• A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional visual design quality across real digital products. We want to see your eye, your craft, and your attention to detail, not just your process.
• Proven experience building, maintaining, or significantly contributing to a design system used in a live product.
• Strong skills in visual design: typography, layout, colour, hierarchy, spacing, and the ability to create polished, premium interfaces.
• Solid UX knowledge: user journeys, information architecture, wireframes, and prototyping. Enough to make sound, independent design decisions.
• Solid understanding of accessibility principles and inclusive design (WCAG familiarity required).
• Advanced proficiency in Figma.
• Ability to work autonomously, communicate blockers proactively, and maintain momentum without waiting for perfect processes.

Nice to Have

• Experience designing for DTC ecommerce, subscription products, or consumer digital experiences.
• Familiarity with Shopify or headless commerce environments.
• CRO awareness or interest in conversion-focused design (our team generates the ideas, you execute).
• Understanding of HTML and CSS constraints.
• Experience mentoring designers or running design critique sessions.
