Job summary

Aptima is seeking a UX Engineer to shape high-quality, intuitive front-end experiences for production web applications. You will collaborate with UX Researchers, Designers, and Engineers to define features, prototype iteratively, and evolve design systems.

You will translate concepts into reusable UI components, ensure accessibility, and contribute to scalable engineering practices across products and customer environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical or STEM field is required.
• Experience with modern front-end development tools and frameworks (React, Angular, TypeScript, HTML, CSS).
• Demonstrated ability to design and produce clear UX design deliverables.
• Experience creating and implementing design systems and scalable UI components.
• Strong background in prototyping and customer-facing collaboration.
• Portfolio demonstrating design capability and front-end engineering experience.
• GitHub or other public repository with representative front-end code samples.
• Willingness to travel when necessary.
• Eligibility for a U.S. Security Clearance is required.

How You’ll Make an Impact

The UX Engineer will excel at the intersection of user experience design, prototyping, and front-end development. You will focus on shaping high-quality, intuitive, next-generation user experiences for production web applications. You will collaborate with UX Researchers, Designers, Software Engineers, senior technical staff, and customers to define impactful user experiences, develop prototypes, evolve design systems, and support the delivery of polished, user-centered applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Front-End Application Development: Develop modern front-end applications using React, Angular, TypeScript, and component-based frameworks; build responsive, intuitive, and accessible UI components that scale across products and customer environments; and lead efforts to transform dashboards into interactive, high-value applications that improve workflows and usability.
• UX Engineering & Prototyping: Design and implement user-friendly features with a focus on interactions, animations, and micro-details; translate concepts into working prototypes through rapid iteration with UX Designers, Researchers, and customers; and create, extend, and maintain design systems, reusable patterns, and scalable UI component libraries.
• Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work: Work closely with UX Researchers, Designers, Senior Software Engineers, and customers to define features, test concepts, gather insights, demo prototypes, and ensure seamless translation from design to code.
• Software Engineering Practices: Develop commercial and enterprise-grade front-end software across the full development lifecycle, including implementing enhancements, debugging, correcting defects, and promoting high-quality, maintainable, and scalable engineering practices.
• Typical Functions: Apply user research, data interpretation, ideation, UI design, and front-end development skills to create products and features; test, debug, and refine prototypes and production code while aligning UX intent with engineering performance.
