Job summary

Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM) is seeking a Utility Coordinator to support DOT-related utility adjustments regionally. You’ll work with DOT, city, county and developer projects, coordinating utilities, scoping work, and ensuring alignment with client and company requirements.

You will lead a team of utility coordinators, manage budgets, and help maintain and expand client relationships across ongoing DOT initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years’ experience in preparing agreements for relocating utilities per local/state/federal processes.
  • 4+ years’ experience as a utility coordinator on state DOT projects or equivalent utility company work.
  • 4+ years’ managing project budgets.
  • Experience providing Utility Coordination services for Design-Build projects.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • 4+ years’ supervisory experience overseeing multiple projects and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Attend scoping meetings and provide input on utilities.
  • Provide project details to assist scope and fee proposals.
  • Oversee Utility Coordinators and ensure client/company requirements are met.
  • Lead regular status meetings to track milestones and deliverables.
  • Support DL goals for the Utility Coordination Team.
  • Maintain existing clients and pursue business development.
  • Coordinate utility adjustment processes for roadway/utility improvements.
  • Identify and resolve Utility Conflicts using SUE data and plans.
  • Prepare and submit Utility Agreement Assemblies.
  • Review relocation plans for constructibility and DOT compliance.
  • Perform other tasks to help achieve company goals.

Your Impact at SAM

This position reports to the Utility Coordination Manager and works with Project Managers, Engineers, and Technicians to provide assistance, technical support, and coordination for utility adjustment efforts to resolve design conflicts with utilities impacted by projects associated with the Department of Transportation (DOT) throughout the region. Works directly with associated DOT, City, County and Developer led projects. These projects include, utility coordination associated with maintenance, rehabilitation, improvements and reconstruction of ongoing projects for the DOT.

  • Attend project scoping meetings and provide input and recommendations relative to utilities
  • Provide Utility Coordination Manager with project details to assist with the development of scope and fee proposals
  • Provide oversight and guidance of Utility Coordinators, ensuring that client, owner and Company requirements are met
  • Conduct regular project status meetings with Utility Coordinators to ensure project milestones and deliverables are on track
  • Assist the Utility Coordination Manager in ensuring that Direct Labor (DL) goals for the Utility Coordination Team are met
  • Maintains existing clients and performs business development
  • Responsible for the coordination of the utility adjustment process for roadway and utility improvement projects
  • Determination of Utility Conflict and conflict resolution using Subsurface Utility Engineering data and design plans
  • Preparation and submission of Utility Agreement Assemblies
  • Receipt and review of utility relocation plans to ensure that such materials are constructible, do not pose conflicts with other utility relocations, accommodate the project and adhere to DOT requirements
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to help accomplish the Company’s strategic goals

What You Bring to SAM

  • 4 + years’ experience in preparing agreements for relocating utilities in accordance to local, state and federal utility accommodation processes and practices
  • 4 + years’ experience as a utility coordinator on state DOT projects or comparable experience working for utility companies
  • 4 + years’ managing project budgets
  • Experience in proving Utility Coordination services for Design-Build projects
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong communication and negotiation skills
  • 4 + years’ supervisory experience of multiple projects and personnel
  • BS/BA and/or equivalent experience
  • State DOT pre-certifications to function as a Utility Coordination task lead
  • Professional Engineer license a plus
