Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Sr. Utilities Engineer to optimize and manage refrigeration, boiler, and compressed air systems across facilities.

You will guide design, development, operation, and project implementation to improve efficiency and compliance. The role requires a Bachelor's in Engineering, 5+ years in ammonia refrigeration, relevant certifications, and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field with 5+ years in operations, maintenance and optimization of Ammonia Refrigeration systems.
  • RETA CIRO or equivalent ammonia training certification is required.
  • Deep theoretical understanding of industrial refrigeration systems and practical application.
  • Strong reading, math and analytical skills; ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel to other locations (about 50% of the time).

Responsibilities

  • Support US Fresh and Packaged Meat Facilities as required.
  • Collaborate with facilities teams on capital infrastructure plans.
  • Assist in designing and implementing refrigeration system upgrades and new projects.
  • Perform load, charge and relief calculations and support regulatory compliance.
