Job summary

Intuitive Autonomy is seeking a Senior User Interface and Tooling Engineer in San Jose to build web, desktop, and on-robot interfaces plus cloud services. You will enable safe, intuitive robot operation and scalable tooling for deployment and diagnostics.

You’ll work across frontend and backend, integrating ROS 2, cloud data, and fleet management while supporting model training, OTA upgrades, and multi-robot coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and 3+ years of industry experience.
• Frontend experience with React and TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Backend experience in Python, Go, Node.js, or C++ is expected.
• Familiarity with ROS 2 and robotics tooling.
• Experience building cloud services via REST, gRPC, WebSocket, or MQTT.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Linux, AWS.

Responsibilities

• Build an integrated robotics software platform across on-robot, web, mobile/desktop, and cloud.
• Implement status monitoring, task configuration, remote control, and visualization.
• Design intuitive interactions for non-technical users to operate robots safely.

Senior User Interface and Tooling Engineer

Role Overview

We’re seeking a senior UI and tooling engineer to build the software connecting robot users, robotic systems, and the cloud. You’ll develop human interfaces, engineering tools, and fleet and data services that make robots easier to operate, debug, deploy, and scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Build an integrated robotics software platform spanning on-robot interfaces, web consoles, mobile or desktop applications, and cloud services
• Implement status monitoring, task configuration, remote control, alerts, and visualization of maps and perception results
• Design interactions that help non-technical users operate robots safely and intuitively
• Integrate with ROS 2 and build tools for robot deployment, diagnostics, troubleshooting, remote operations, and over-the-air (OTA) upgrades
• Develop cloud systems for collecting, transmitting, storing, retrieving, and managing images, point clouds, radar and IMU data, logs, maps, and calibration data
• Support algorithm teams with data feedback loops, model training workflows, replay analysis, and issue diagnosis
• Build backend services for device and user management, authentication and authorization, remote monitoring, task scheduling, data synchronization, and OTA upgrades
• Develop fleet management capabilities for multi-robot connectivity, status reporting, remote control, and large-scale operations
• Implement REST, gRPC, WebSocket, or MQTT interfaces connecting robots, user applications, and cloud services

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and at least 3 years of industry experience
• Proficiency in a frontend framework such as React, and familiarity with TypeScript or JavaScript
• Proficiency in at least one backend language or runtime, such as Python, Go, Node.js, or C++
• Familiarity with ROS 2, robot system architecture, and common robotics tools
• Experience developing cloud services using REST, gRPC, WebSocket, or MQTT
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Linux, and cloud platforms such as AWS

Bonus Points

• Experience bringing robotics, autonomous driving, smart hardware to scaled production
• Experience with fleet management, remote operations, OTA upgrades, or cloud-based data feedback loops
• Experience with large-scale data platforms, data lakes, data labeling, or model training platforms
