Job summary

City of Oakland is seeking Planner III professionals to contribute to shaping the future of Oakland. The ideal candidates bring strong knowledge of land use planning law, CEQA, and experience coordinating with multiple city departments and stakeholders.

Four years of urban planning experience are required, with a Bachelor's in planning or related field; a Master's may substitute for one year of experience. The role offers competitive benefits and opportunities to work with diverse communities.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of land use planning law in California.
• Familiarity with CEQA and entitlement review.
• Ability to coordinate work with departments with differing objectives.
• Ability to communicate with the public via phone, email, and meetings.
• Ability to conduct research and formulate recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform research and analysis for General Plan, neighborhood plans, and special projects.
• Process planning permits, environmental review applications, and plan modifications.
• Monitor environmental impact studies and coordinate with consultants.
• Provide direction to zoning staff advising property owners, developers, and the public.
• Consult with City departments, community organizations, and public agencies on zoning and general plan development.
• Make presentations to City staff, neighborhood groups, and Planning Commission.
