Job summary

Ursa Major seeks a senior turbopump engineer to refine turbomachinery technology across multiple engine platforms. You will own portions of turbopump technology, contribute to engine tests and development, and perform design trades with rapid analysis.

You will collaborate with the Turbomachinery Design team to produce high-performing, manufacture-ready turbomachinery. You will support existing turbomachinery, troubleshoot performance or reliability issues, and report to the Manager of

Qualifications

• BS degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering is required.
• 5+ years in turbomachinery design and development.
• 2+ years’ experience with CAD software (NX or Creo).
• Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Expertise in rotor dynamics, turbine stage aero-mechanical design, pump/inducer hydrodynamics, turbomachinery layout and design.
• Experience with turbomachinery analysis software (ANSYS FEA/CFD).
• Knowledge of structural/thermal analysis with ANSYS is a plus.
• Experience with major CFD tools (CFX, Fluent) is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• As a senior turbopump engineer, you will be a key member of a small, talented team refining turbomachinery technology across multiple engine platforms. You will own portions of the turbopump technology and contribute actively in engine test and development. You will report to the Manager of Turbomachinery Core Technology.
• You will support conceptual design and development of new turbomachinery as the subject matter expert in one or more key areas, perform design trades, preliminary design work and analysis to support this.
• You will collaborate with the Turbomachinery Design team to produce high-performing, state-of-the-art turbomachinery detailed designs that are manufacture-able and flight ready.
• You will support existing Ursa Major Turbomachinery where applicable to troubleshoot performance or reliability issues in your area(s) of expertise.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in turbomachinery design and development.
• 2+ years’ experience working with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or PTC Creo.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment.
• Significant experience / technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Rotor dynamics; balancing fundamentals
• Turbine stage aero-mechanical design
• Hydrodynamic design of pumps / inducers
• Turbomachinery detailed layout and design
• Experience in a Turbomachinery related analysis software (ANSYS FEA, CFD or other specialized software as applicable)

Desired Skills and Experience

• Experience with structural and thermal analysis using Ansys FEA software
• Proficient major industry CFD software (CFX, Fluent, etc.)
• Experience in liquid rocket engine, design, test or analysis

Compensation and Benefits

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $112,000 - $140,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
