Job summary

Sonoma Water seeks a Water Agency Senior Environmental Specialist to serve as the Agency’s Tribal Liaison. The role focuses on building constructive relationships with Tribes regarding water supply, flood control, sanitation, climate adaptation, and watershed management in the Russian River watershed.

You will prepare environmental documents, review cultural resources, engage Tribes, coordinate project reviews, and manage tribal agreements, collaborating with staff across divisions.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing and reviewing documents to comply with environmental laws and regulations.
• Ability to communicate with Tribal representatives and governments.
• Experience coordinating with consultant archeologists and tribal agreements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review documents in compliance with laws and regulations, land use planning, grants, and rights-of-way.
• Plan and review work related to cultural and tribal resources.
• Engage Tribal representatives and governments to involve them in projects.
• Coordinate with Tribal representatives on project reviews to facilitate responses to Tribal comments.
• Manage tribal monitoring agreements with consultants.
• Attend meetings with staff and managers across divisions.
• Develop strategic positions supporting tribal consultations with Environmental Resources Division Manager.
