Quantinuum in Albuquerque, NM is seeking a Sr. Advanced Experimental Physicist (AMO) with trapped-ion experience to contribute to R&D for a utility-scale quantum computer. You will build, operate, and advance ion-trapping hardware across photonics and free-space optics.

The role requires a PhD, 5+ years of trapped-ion experience, 3+ years programming control systems, and U.S. person status; travel about 10%. The team collaborates across locations; safety screening applies.

Qualifications

• PhD completed prior to starting.
• 5+ years of trapped-ion systems experience (PhD inclusive).
• 3+ years programming control systems for data collection/analysis (PhD inclusive).
• Experience with quantum computing hardware and with cryogenic/ultra-high vacuum systems.
• Experience with integrated photonic devices and strong technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and maintain trapped ion systems and related support infrastructure (free-space optics and integrated photonics).
• Design experiments, collect and analyze data, and present results to stakeholders.
• Help build an ion-trapping lab from the ground up.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and fabrication experts to validate technologies.
• Review literature and implement improvements in experimental workflow.
• Travel ~10% as needed.
