We are looking for a Senior Transportation Project Manager to lead large-scale, complex transportation projects or multi-project transportation programs in the San Antonio Metropolitan area and surrounding regions such as Houston and the Rio Grande Valley.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Senior Transportation Project Manager is the highest level in KCI’s Project Management career path within our Transportation Practice. The role provides strategic oversight across a portfolio of roadway or multimodal infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with client goals, regulatory requirements, and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of the project(s), including technical staff, subcontractors, and suppliers, to ensure timely and successful project completion.
  • Develop and communicate the Project Management Plan, outlining objectives, scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Serve as lead designer or engineer of record for complex or major highway design and arterial projects.
  • Effectively manage project scope, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
  • Maintain project schedules, proactively identifying and addressing potential delays or conflicts.
  • Define and refine requirements through the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor budgets and expenditures, implementing cost‑control measures.
  • Uphold high‑quality standards throughout execution.
  • Use strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage shifting priorities.
  • Serve as the primary client point of contact, maintaining open communication.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and team members.
  • Identify and mitigate risks for the project and team.
  • Apply knowledge of different project delivery methods.
Training, Development, and Compliance
  • Mentor Project Managers and coordinate with engineers, planners, contractors, and government agencies.
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
  • Ensure projects fulfill Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
  • Develop and implement project‑specific safety plans.
  • Support staff development by identifying training opportunities and strengths.
Financial Management and Reporting
  • Negotiate contract terms, scope, and fees with clients and subcontractors.
  • Develop project schedules from inception to completion, optimizing concurrent tasks.
  • Prepare and submit monthly project completion reports.
  • Provide monthly progress and business development results to the Practice Leader.
  • Achieve or exceed utilization targets and deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Manage project cash flow and work with Finance and Operations.
Business Development and Marketing
  • Participate in project opportunity evaluations and consultant selections.
  • Identify new business opportunities and promote KCI’s capabilities.
  • Assist with project closeout, including overall project write‑ups and marketing materials.
  • Maintain active involvement in at least one industry or community organization.
Project Execution and Technical Oversight
  • Fully manage all required project management and technical deliverables.
  • Compare field data to design plans and conduct site visits.
  • Prepare all phases of designs and deliverables for approval.
  • Utilize OpenRoads Designer or other design software to develop detailed roadway plans.
  • Read and interpret technical documents.
  • Make determinations and recommendations to resolve challenges.
  • Maintain knowledge of current federal, state, and municipal policies.
Qualifications
Education and/or Skills Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (AEC Industry) and minimum 6 years of related professional experience, or 10 years of equivalent professional experience.
  • Track record of expanding project management duties.
  • Proven experience in managing larger‑scale projects or programs.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
  • Effective problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills for managing contracts and scope changes.
  • Understanding of accounting principles for managing budgets and financial reporting.
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in a related field (AEC Industry).
Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations Required
  • Complete KCI PM Training and Contract Risk Training and pass the PM Board within 6 months of start date.
