Job summary

Gonzalez Companies, LLC in St. Louis, MO seeks a Transportation Project Engineer III/IV to lead the design and delivery of transportation projects, including geometrics and traffic control.

You will develop plans using MicroStation/OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D and prepare reports, cost estimates, and submittals for DOT and municipal agencies. The role requires 5–12+ years in transportation engineering, a PE license, and strong mentoring and leadership abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred for higher levels.
• Typically 5–12+ years of transportation/ roadway engineering experience.
• Proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D, including advanced geometric design.
• Strong understanding of DOT, LPA, or municipal design standards and submittal requirements.
• Ability to produce, review, and refine engineering calculations, design packages, and cost estimates.
• PE license required; able to serve as Engineer of Record or lead discipline tasks at IV level.
• Proven ability to mentor junior staff and coordinate project tasks.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and independent work skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to design and delivery of transportation projects (geometrics, intersections, drainage, traffic control).
• Develop and review plans, models, and calculations using MicroStation/OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Prepare design reports, cost estimates, memos, specs, and submittals for DOT/municipal agencies.
• Mentor junior engineers; coordinate tasks and perform quality reviews of documents.
• Coordinate with project managers, clients, subconsultants, and authorities to meet schedules.
• Perform advanced analyses and troubleshoot design challenges.
• Support project planning, scope development, and budgeting where possible.
• Participate in QA/QC and ensure compliance with standards.
• Conduct field investigations or construction support as needed.
