Job summary

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. (VHB) seeks a Senior Transportation Engineer to join our Transportation Systems team in Raleigh and/or Charlotte, NC.

You will lead traffic operations analyses, signal design, and modeling on high‑impact projects across the Southeast, collaborating with public and private clients to improve safety and mobility. You’ll apply advanced tools like Synchro, SIDRA, and VISSIM, manage multidisciplinary teams, and communicate findings through technical reports and

Qualifications

• 8–11+ years of progressive experience in traffic operations, signal design, planning, or safety engineering.
• Professional Engineer license required.
• Proven experience with NCDOT or statewide operational/safety projects.
• Strong modeling tools proficiency and ability to communicate findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Project Manager on transportation systems projects with oversight of schedules and budgets.
• Lead development of traffic operations analyses, corridor and TIP studies, and statewide safety programs.
• Apply advanced modeling and simulation using Synchro, SIDRA, VISSIM, VISSUM to optimize mobility.
• Develop recommendations for signal operations, access management, and congestion strategies.
• Collaborate with NCDOT and public agencies on statewide initiatives and corridor analyses.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate traffic operations with planning and safety goals.
• Prepare and present data-driven technical reports and visualizations to clients.
