Job summary

Toole Design seeks a Senior Transportation Engineer in Oakland, CA to lead multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero initiatives, and Safe Routes to School projects, drawing on interdisciplinary teams from planning, engineering, and design.

Based in our Oakland office, you will mentor staff, manage client relationships, develop proposals, and help win work while delivering projects on time and on budget for California communities.

Qualifications

• PE license and/or CA Transportation Engineer certification or ability to obtain within six months
• 8+ years multimodal transportation project experience
• Leadership of multi-discipline design and planning projects; strong networks in the CA transportation market is a plus
• Experience presenting projects to diverse audiences
• Ability to win work through client relationships, proposals and interview materials
• Spanish language knowledge is a plus

What You'll Do

As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you'll lead multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero initiatives, Active Transportation Plans, Safe Routes to School projects, and other transportation planning and design efforts across California. Working with interdisciplinary teams, you'll guide projects from concept through implementation, mentor staff, build client relationships, support business development, and develop practical solutions that improve safety and mobility for people walking, biking, and taking transit. Based in our collaborative Oakland office, you'll work alongside planners, engineers, urban designers, and landscape architects on projects ranging from systemwide planning and corridor studies to detailed design and implementation.

What You Bring

• Professional Engineering (PE) license and/or California Transportation Engineer (TE) certification, or ability to obtain within six months (California PE license is a plus)
• 8+ years of multimodal transportation project experience
• Proven leadership of multi-discipline design and planning projects, delivering on time and on budgetStrong networks and relationships in the California transportation market, including with Caltrans, municipalities, or other consulting firms is a plus
• Experience presenting projects and conveying technical details to a variety of audiences
• The motivation to win work, including forming and managing client relationships, identifying potential opportunities, and developing proposals and interview materials
• Fluency or a working knowledge of the Spanish language is a plus

We are targeting a salary range of $150,000 to $171,000 for this position.
