Job summary

VHB in Virginia Beach is seeking a Senior Transportation Consultant to grow their Transportation team across Virginia markets. The role offers exposure to diverse projects for state and local agencies and involves leading design efforts, mentoring CAD staff, and coordinating with project managers.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years in transportation projects, proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other industry tools, and a track record of producing roadway plans and reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred.
• 15+ years of experience on complex transportation projects including roadway design, maintenance of traffic, grading, utility design and stormwater management.
• Experience developing and compiling roadway plans, construction documents, specifications, and engineering reports.
• GIS experience is a plus, GIS is used to create better projects.
• Experience in plan set production for Virginia locality or VDOT projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops engineering drawings, conceptual plans, and exhibits for projects of varying size under limited supervision.
• Plans, researches, and produces contract drawings based on constraints defined by the Project Manager, review agencies, and client needs.
• Designs roadway based on information, schematics, and calculations developed by Designer.
• Determines CAD usage and application on projects.
• Recognizes and resolves potential construction conflicts and difficulties identified during design.
• Aids in preparation of technical specifications.
• Ensures overall consistency, quality, technical accuracy, and design on projects.
• Provides CAD mentoring for other designers and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develops engineering drawings, conceptual plans, and exhibits for a variety of projects ranging in size and complexity with limited supervision
• Plans, researches, and produces contract drawings based on constraints defined by the Project Manager, review agencies, and client needs
• Designs roadway based on information, schematics, and calculations developed by Designer
• Determines CAD usage and application on projects
• Recognizes and resolves potential construction conflicts and difficulties identified during design

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred
• 15+ years of experience working on complex transportation projects that involved roadway design, maintenance of traffic, grading, utility design and stormwater management
• Experience in developing and compiling/producing roadway plans, construction documents, specification, and engineering reports
• Experience with GIS Systems is a plus – GIS is one of the tools we use to create better projects
• Proficient in the some or all of the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Geopak, Open Roads, Microsoft Project, MS Office Suite
• Experience in plan set production for Virginia locality or VDOT transportation projects preferred

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $135,000 to $160,000 if located in Virginia. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
