Job description

Field Quality | Sustaining Engineering | Medium-Voltage Power Equipment

On-Site | Full-Time

The Opportunity

Our client is a rapidly growing manufacturer of medium-voltage and power-distribution equipment supporting critical infrastructure, industrial facilities, large-scale construction, and high-demand power applications.

As the company continues to expand, they are adding a Senior Transformer Reliability Engineer who will take ownership of product performance after equipment moves from engineering into production and ultimately into the field.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being the person who solves the difficult problems that happen after a product ships.

You will investigate field failures, identify root causes, drive corrective actions, improve existing designs, strengthen manufacturing specifications, and work directly with customers and field personnel when technical issues arise.

This is not purely a new-product design role.

It is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys the intersection of:

Transformer Engineering + Field Troubleshooting + Quality + Sustaining Engineering + Customer Support

The position has significant visibility with engineering leadership and offers the opportunity to help build and shape a growing product-reliability function.

What You’ll Do
Product Reliability & Field Engineering
  • Serve as a technical owner for field failures, warranty issues, installation problems, and product-quality escapes involving medium-voltage transformer equipment.
  • Lead structured root-cause investigations and corrective actions using tools such as 8D, 5-Why, fault-tree analysis, or similar methodologies.
  • Work directly with customers, contractors, field personnel, and internal teams to troubleshoot technical problems and bring issues to permanent resolution.
  • Analyze test records, field conditions, drawings, specifications, and operating data to determine failure mechanisms.
  • Support occasional on-site field investigations, commissioning issues, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Own engineering improvements to existing transformer designs and configurations already in production or operating in the field.
  • Evaluate engineering-change requests originating from manufacturing, quality, customers, or field observations.
  • Update and improve drawings, specifications, tolerances, installation documentation, accessory configurations, and technical standards.
  • Convert recurring field issues into permanent design or manufacturing improvements.
  • Help establish a disciplined engineering-change and configuration-management process.
Transformer & Power-System Expertise
  • Apply practical knowledge of medium-voltage transformers, winding configurations, core-and-coil construction, insulation systems, accessories, and protection equipment.
  • Support technical issues involving transformer interfaces with switchgear, current transformers, protective devices, controls, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance to commercial and customer-facing teams when complex product questions arise.
  • Help ensure equipment performs as designed throughout installation, commissioning, and operation.
Quality & Manufacturing Partnership
  • Partner closely with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to improve incoming inspection, manufacturing controls, final testing, and product acceptance criteria.
  • Analyze recurring defects and nonconformances and develop permanent corrective actions.
  • Work with manufacturing partners and suppliers to ensure engineering requirements are clearly understood and consistently executed.
  • Support third-party testing, product validation, and certification-related activities when required.
  • Develop clear, practical technical documentation that can be used by customers, installers, manufacturing teams, and field personnel.
  • Maintain engineering records and ensure changes are properly documented and communicated.
  • Track recurring field-performance issues and use the data to prioritize product improvements.
  • Help build scalable reliability and sustaining-engineering processes as the organization continues to grow.
What We’re Looking For
Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related technical discipline; equivalent advanced transformer/power-equipment experience may also be considered.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience involving transformers, medium-voltage equipment, power systems, or closely related electrical products.
  • Practical understanding of transformer construction and operation, including core-and-coil fundamentals, winding configurations, insulation systems, and associated components.
  • Experience troubleshooting products that have already entered production or been installed in the field.
  • Demonstrated experience with root-cause analysis and corrective-action methodologies.
  • Ability to read, interpret, review, and mark up electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact directly with customers, contractors, engineering teams, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for field support.
  • Ability to work on-site in the Greenville, South Carolina metro area.
Particularly Attractive Experience

Candidates will stand out with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Medium-voltage or power transformers
  • Liquid-filled transformers
  • Dry-type transformers
  • Pad-mounted or substation equipment
  • Switchgear or protection systems
  • Transformer field service or commissioning
  • Product reliability engineering
  • Supplier quality or manufacturing quality
  • 8D / CAPA / corrective-action leadership
  • UL, IEEE, IEC, or NEC standards
  • Data-center or mission-critical power infrastructure
  • High-growth manufacturing environments
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is a high-impact engineering role where your work will have a direct effect on product reliability, customer satisfaction, manufacturing quality, and future product design.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Own challenging technical issues from initial failure through permanent corrective action.
  • Work directly with senior engineering leadership.
  • Influence both field performance and future product improvements.
  • Help establish the processes and standards for a growing reliability-engineering function.
  • Join a growing organization serving markets with significant long-term demand for electrical infrastructure.
  • Build toward broader technical leadership as the engineering organization expands.
