GlobalFoundries is seeking a Quantum Topological Research Scientist – Technology Architecture in California to define long‑term architecture for topological qubits while engaging in experiments, simulations, and prototype work. The role requires deep expertise in topological quantum devices, cryogenic physics, and collaboration with multiple internal teams to mature concepts

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Physics, EE, MSE, or Applied Physics.
• 12+ years of experience in quantum devices, semiconductor tech, or advanced research.
• Deep expertise in topological, superconducting, and quantum system architectures.
• Experience with cryogenic device physics and measurement environments.
• Impact on technical strategy, research direction, and roadmaps.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technology roadmaps for topological qubits and integration strategies.
• Lead development of topological quantum devices through experiments, simulations, and prototypes.
• Collaborate with device, integration, process, AME, PDK, and test teams to scale architectures.
• Guide R&D of advanced materials including III-V, epitaxy, superconductors, and topological systems.
• Contribute to experimental design, data analysis, and failure learning cycles.
• Define system architectures linking qubits with cryogenic control and readout.
• Drive modeling and validation to improve coherence, performance, manufacturability, scalability.
• Translate device innovations into BEOL and heterogeneous integration approaches.
• Establish benchmarks and metrics aligned with internal and partner programs.
• Serve as primary technical interface with customers and research partners.
• Lead external collaborations, funded programs, and research proposals.
• Communicate strategy, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and teams.
• Mentor engineers and establish technical standards across topological R&D.
