Job summary

Chromalloy seeks a Senior Tooling Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of tooling solutions for aerospace component production and repair. You will own projects from concept through production, employing CAD/CAM, reverse engineering, CNC manufacturing, and design for manufacturability.

You will create 3D models and drawings in NX, validate CNC programs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver tooling that meets safety and performance standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing design and tooling development experience.
  • Strong CAD/CAM experience, preferably NX.
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing and CAM programming.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
  • Proficient with measurement technologies such as CMMs and optical scanners.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement tooling and manufacturing solutions for aerospace component production and repair.
  • Own technical aspects of tooling projects from concept through production.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using NX.
  • Develop, validate, and support CNC programs for tooling development and fabrication.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to meet requirements.
  • Perform reverse engineering using dimensional inspection and 3D scanning.
  • Apply design for manufacturability to improve tooling performance and efficiency.
  • Evaluate tooling costs, assist project planning, and manage schedules.
  • Support manufacturing operations through troubleshooting and process improvements.
  • Review engineering work, mentor junior engineers, and present findings.

Job Summary

We're looking for a Senior Tooling Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of tooling solutions that support the manufacture and repair of aerospace components. In this role, you will own tooling projects from concept through production, applying expertise in CAD/CAM, reverse engineering, CNC manufacturing, and design for manufacturability to improve processes, support operations, and deliver innovative tooling solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Design, develop, and implement tooling and manufacturing solutions that support aerospace component production and repair.
  • Own technical aspects of tooling projects from initial concept through manufacturing and production support.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using NX.
  • Develop, validate, and support CNC programs used in tooling development and fabrication.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to deliver tooling solutions that meet customer and business requirements.
  • Perform reverse engineering activities using dimensional inspection, 3D scanning, and other measurement technologies.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability principles to improve tooling performance, usability, and efficiency.
  • Evaluate tooling costs, support project planning activities, and manage project schedules.
  • Support manufacturing operations through troubleshooting, process improvements, and technical problem solving.
  • Review engineering work, provide technical guidance, and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Present technical findings, project updates, and tooling solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing design, tooling development, and reverse engineering.
  • Strong CAD/CAM experience, preferably with NX.
  • Experience supporting CNC manufacturing processes and CAM programming.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Experience using measurement technologies such as CMMs, optical scanning systems, and precision gaging.
  • Strong understanding of 3D modeling, drawing creation, and tooling design principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting gas turbine or aerospace manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of casting, machining, and aerospace component repair processes.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing technologies and tooling applications.
  • Knowledge of FAA requirements and aerospace regulatory guidelines.
  • Advanced experience with 3D scanning and reverse engineering software.
  • Experience managing engineering programs, schedules, and budgets.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments with exposure to production equipment, machinery, and industrial processes.
  • Regular interaction with production areas repair operations is required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout manufacturing facilities for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
