Job summary

Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. is seeking a Senior Tool & Die Maker for our Mission, TX facility.

The role involves leading mold setting, preparing molds for production, and implementing preventive maintenance to ensure optimal mold performance. You will train apprentices, oversee technicians, and coordinate with production and quality teams to resolve mold-related issues while supporting safe, efficient manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two-year technical/trade program focused on mold making preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in mold maker or tool & die maker role.
  • Advanced expertise in plastic injection mold repair and maintenance.
  • Proficient with tool room machinery (surface grinders, lathes, mills, EDM, TIG/MIG).
  • Skilled with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, height gauges, calipers).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously; flexible to rotate day/night shifts and overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mold setting activities per production plan and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare molds for production; ensure proper identification and location.
  • Implement mold preventive maintenance using e-maintenance software.
  • Maintain accurate mold maintenance/repair records.
  • Coordinate and oversee mold maintenance technicians and apprentices.

  • Verify drawings for planned part numbers and mold setups.
  • Lead inspections of new molds and ensure compatibility with molding machines.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to investigate defects and implement fixes.
  • Assist process techs in troubleshooting defects and optimizing mold cycles.

What You’ll Do

As a Tool & Die Maker, you’ll be part of our team located in Mission, TX. You’ll get to:

  • Lead mold setting activities according to the production plan and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare molds for production and ensure they are properly identified and located.
  • Implement and follow the mold preventive maintenance plan using e-maintenance software.
  • Maintain accurate records of mold maintenance and repairs.
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of mold maintenance technicians and apprentices to ensure adherence to production and maintenance plans.
  • Develop and train apprentices and technicians in mold maintenance, repair and the use of measuring tool room equipment (e.g., micrometers, height gauges, EDM, welding machines, surface grinders, lathes).
  • Verify part and mold drawings to ensure correct setup for planned part numbers.
  • Lead and perform inspections of new molds, ensuring all connections are compatible with molding machines.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to examine defective parts or molds, determine root causes, and implement repairs or maintenance.
  • Support process technicians in troubleshooting part defects and optimizing mold cycles during production.
  • Build or modify assembly fixtures and assist tools as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized tool room in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Complete and maintain safety checklists for equipment such as cranes and forklifts
  • Ensure all team members follow safety guidelines within the tool room area.
  • Stay current with technological advancements relevant to the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager to meet business needs.

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Completion of a two-year technical or trade school program with an emphasis on mold making preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a mold maker or tool and die maker position.
  • Advanced expertise in plastic injection mold repair and maintenance.
  • Proficient in the use of tool room machinery, including surface grinders, lathes, milling machines, sinker EDM, wire EDM, drill EDM and TIG/MIG welding applications.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring equipment (e.g. micrometers, height gauges, calipers).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously within established procedures and practices.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good knowledge of CAD/CAM software (e.g., CATIA, AutoCAD)
  • Capable of designing and fabricating fixtures and gauges.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Flexible schedule; must be able to rotate shifts (Day or Night) and work overtime as required.
  • Experience operating forklifts and cranes preferred.
