Job summary

L3Harris Technologies seeks a Senior Specialist Tool Design Engineer in Huntsville, AL to join the AMF facility. You will design and oversee tooling such as jigs, fixtures, molds, mandrels, and lifting devices used in solid fuel rocket motor fabrication and assembly.

The role blends design, structural analysis, project management and hands‑on manufacturing. You will employ PTC Creo and Windchill, perform FEA to predict stresses, and lead design reviews with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with at least 6 years of mechanical design experience.
• Graduate Degree with at least 4 years of mechanical design experience.
• In lieu of a degree, at least 10 years of mechanical design experience.

Responsibilities

• Define tool requirements with cross-functional teams.
• Design using PTC Creo and Windchill per Design for Manufacturability principles.
• Use finite element analysis (FEA) to predict stresses and resolve instabilities.
• Conduct design reviews with cross-functional teams for approvals.
• Oversee procurement and fabrication of tooling.
• Work with Manufacturing Engineers for functional evaluations and acceptance of tooling.
• Identify tool problems, design repairs and modifications.
• Apply GD&T and system tolerance analysis; utilize MS Office tools.
