Type One Energy Group in Knoxville, TN invites a Senior Thermofluids Engineer to lead thermal-fluid design and analysis for the Infinity One stellarator and future fusion power plant development. You will guide steam generator integration, perform simulations, and collaborate with AECOM and partners to shape plant architectures.

The role emphasizes cross-functional leadership, advanced modeling, and delivering robust thermal-fluid solutions in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with analytical thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics calculations.
• Experience designing and operating water-cooling systems and components.
• Experience with simulation and property tools (REFPROP, GASPAK, HePAK, ASPEN HYSYS).
• Ability to translate modeling results into system-level engineering decisions.
• Experience drafting PFDs and P&IDs.
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform thermodynamic, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer calculations for core and support systems.
• Design and specify piping, pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.
• Develop PFDs and P&IDs and other design docs.
• Contribute to steam generator design, sizing, and integration with engineering partners.
• Set technical strategy for projects and initiatives.
• Use modeling tools to guide design decisions across multiple projects.
