Job summary

Critical Energy seeks a Senior Systems Engineer with a strong background in thermal and fluid dynamics to design, model, test, and optimize modular clean-energy power plants. You will own system PFD and P&ID and develop 1D thermo-fluid models for heat exchangers, turbines, pumps, and cooling loops.

Collaborating with Turbomachinery, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Field Ops, you will apply first principles, perform CFD and hand calculations, and help define tests and control strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of proven experience in systems engineering or highly related role, with a strong portfolio of projects involving diverse and integrated machinery.
• Solid understanding of core mechanical engineering principles including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science for system sizing and modeling.
• Experience with a modern CAD package and willingness to self-teach Siemens NX.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Highly self-motivated with effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Define system requirements, interfaces, and performance budgets for thermal and fluid subsystems.
• Own system PFD and P&ID.
• Develop sub-system and system-level models to calculate steady, transient, and off-design thermal and fluid behavior using tools (e.g., Python).
• Support system trade studies evaluating performance, efficiency, and cost impacts.
• Support integration of components including heat exchangers, pumps, fluid management systems, piping networks, and other subsystems.
• Perform hand calculations to size components, determine flow rates, estimate efficiency.
• Perform CFD and thermal analyses to evaluate heat transfer and losses.
• Identify and support testing for risk mitigation.
• Assist in test plan development and instrumentation strategies.
• Analyze experimental data to refine models and improve design.
• Support development of control strategies related to thermal and fluid performance.
• Generate technical documentation and manage vendor relationships.
