Job summary

Lunar Outpost is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Thermal to help define the future of lunar surface mobility. You will work on the Pegasus LTV program and collaborate across Thermal, Mechanical, and Systems teams to ensure design closure and rigorous verification in a fast-paced startup environment.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of aerospace thermal experience, a relevant engineering degree, and strong experience with ICDs, thermal testing, and space environment considerations.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of spacecraft or aerospace thermal systems experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field.
• Experience with requirements development, flowdown, traceability and verification (Jama or similar tools preferred).
• Experience defining and managing interfaces (ICDs) across multidisciplinary systems.
• Direct experience supporting or executing thermal test campaigns.
• Working knowledge of passive and active thermal control hardware: MLI, heaters, radiators, coatings, heat pipes, fluid loops.
• Strong understanding of space thermal environments and heat transfer in space environments (radiation‑dominated systems).
• Ability to operate autonomously and take initiative.
• Excellent organization and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain thermal subsystem requirements, including allocation and verification planning.
• Create and manage ICDs between thermal hardware and spacecraft subsystems (structures, avionics, propulsion, EPS).
• Coordinate with Thermal, Mechanical, and Systems teams to ensure design closure.
• Contribute to V&V planning, including test method definition and success criteria.
• Develop and execute thermal test plans at component, subsystem, and vehicle levels.
• Support I&T activities, including instrumentation planning and data review.
• Prepare engineering documentation such as ICDs, test plans, procedures, and verification matrices.
• Assist in procurement and build of thermal hardware with vendor coordination and drawings review.
• Participate in SRR/PDR/CDR reviews and present status, risks, and findings.
• Identify risks, gaps, and integration issues and drive resolution in a fast-paced environment.
