Job summary

BakerEngineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas, seeks a Senior Testing Engineer to lead the planning, execution, and reporting of advanced testing programs.

You will manage projects from proposal through completion and support the operation and improvement of BakerRisk's test facilities. The ideal candidate has 8–12 years of engineering experience in experimental testing, strong data analysis skills, and proven ability to translate test results into practical recommendations

Qualifications

  • 8–12 years of engineering experience in experimental testing, structural testing, blast testing, materials testing, mechanical testing, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience developing test plans, procedures, instrumentation layouts, and technical reports.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting experimental data.
  • Proficiency with instrumentation and measurements, data acquisition systems, high-speed data collection and imaging systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety planning and hazard assessments.
  • Develop objectives, methodologies, and instrumentation plans for test programs.
  • Support and lead research and development initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Develop project schedules, resource requirements, budgets, and execution plans.
  • Manage multiple concurrent testing projects from proposal through final delivery.
  • Coordinate activities involving engineers, technicians, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule, quality, and budget objectives.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables.
  • Support safe operation of BakerRisk's testing facilities and testing infrastructure.
  • Participate in development of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide oversight of instrumentation, data acquisition systems, high-speed video systems, and specialized test equipment.

Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk) manages hazards and risks through high-value services, products, and research. BakerRisk operates two premier testing facilities in Texas, the Wilfred E. Baker Test Facility (WEBTF) and Box Canyon Test Facility (BCTF), supporting full-scale structural response testing, blast testing, fire testing, explosive testing, projectile impact testing, combustion research, product qualification, and custom experimental programs.

An immediate full-time position is available for a Senior Testing Engineer in San Antonio, Texas. The Senior Testing Engineer leads the planning, execution, and reporting of complex testing programs. The successful candidate will manage projects from proposal through completion. This position supports the operation and continuous improvement of BakerRisk's test facilities by overseeing test readiness, instrumentation, standard operating procedures, equipment capabilities, and facility enhancement initiatives. Success in this role requires strong engineering judgment, project management skills, and the ability to translate complex test data into practical, technically sound recommendations for clients.

Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
  • Active participation in safety planning and hazard assessments.

Education

Master’s Degree in engineering (Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Materials). A Bachelor’s degree may be acceptable with prior work experience as a structural engineer.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 8-12 years of engineering experience, with significant experience in experimental testing, structural testing, blast testing, materials testing, mechanical testing, research engineering, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience developing test plans, procedures, instrumentation layouts, and technical reports.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting experimental data.
  • Proficiency with instrumentation and measurements, data acquisition systems, high-speed data collection and imaging systems
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain and active test ranges.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at elevated locations, and access remote testing areas.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
