Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Test Planning Engineer for the SPARC Assembly team. This on-site, full-time role focuses on planning and approving test campaigns, procedures, and instructions to accelerate project milestones while upholding safety and regulatory standards.
You will generate test procedures, manage risk analysis, and lead complex troubleshooting with a focus on high voltage and hazardous testing. Strong MS Office and 3D modeling skills are required.

This position is overall responsible for planning, drafting and achieving necessary approval of SPARC Assembly Test Products (test campaigns, plans, instructions, procedures) to accelerate project milestones.
Transferrable knowledge / skillset to become adept / proficient in all defined specialized test methods from both an engineering and equipment operation perspective – specialized testing includes complexity or hazard introduction for design verification purposes (low voltage, high voltage, high stored energy, etc.) Capability to mobilize entire test methods based on innovative technologies Proficient at technical procedure writing – format clean & concise templates for iteration and version control Adept at project risk analysis to establish trade-offs for test schedule gains without compromising safety and quality Diligence (attention to detail) – thorough analysis of preliminary and final design reviews to identify opportunities / develop strategies for risk buy down via test methods Exemplifies correct behaviors to establish a safety-conscience work environment & self-improving culture / learning organization – evident in test product development Generate test procedures / instructions to ensure understanding of scope and identify & mitigate potential risks within both the engineering and technician teams Incorporate test performance and safety standards into test products - pre-job briefs, procedural place keeping, procedural use and adherence, conservative bias, diligent monitoring of critical parameters, correct data capture, etc. Process and action team feedback following test execution to leverage lessons learned, prevent error recurrence and optimize flow for ease of technician execution when deemed prudent Lead complex troubleshooting actions plans and casual evaluations as a result of test anomalies Develop software proficiency with SPARC Assembly workflow management for all test activities Adhere to the highest standards of safety and ensure that activities taking place are being performed in strict accordance with CFS safety policies and applicable regulatory safety standards Ensure that activities being performed in the field are conducted in accordance with CFS Standards, standards published by regulatory bodies (NFPA, ASME, ASTM, NET, OSHA, NIOSH, etc.) and Industry Best Practices Occasional accommodation of off-normal work hours to support critical test activities
$110,000 - $185,000 a year Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits. The actual salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
