Senior Teller

Job Description
Summary/objective

The Senior Teller is responsible for the supervision of the teller area. The Senior Teller performs all teller functions as well as solving problems and helping with complex work-related matters. The Senior Teller guides and advises tellers in the efficient handling of customer needs.

Essential functions

  • Supervise the activities of the teller operations area by assigning work, answering questions, solving problems, helping with complex transactions and sensitive member relations problems, explaining policies and procedures to staff, and providing assistance to the teller staff when needed.
  • Approve transactions that are an exception to the bank’s policy or transactions that require a supervisor override.
  • Serve as vault teller, which includes ordering the cash from the Federal Reserve, verifying cash received, filling teller cash orders, maintaining full vault security and balancing vault cash daily.
  • Research teller losses and assist in documenting unacceptable out of balance conditions
  • Assist Branch Manager/Branch Operations Manager in the annual appraisal of job performance of teller staff. Participate in teller disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Oversee work schedules of reporting tellers
  • Monitor the inventory of supplies in the teller area including money orders and official checks
  • Perform routine transactions
  • Oversee operational maintenance and procedural balancing of the ATM
  • Acts as a back up to the new accounts desk

Work environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; and stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Travel required

Travel within 50 miles from your assigned location may be necessary on occasion.

Required education and experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the teller and/or customer service area of a financial institution
Preferred education and experience
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
